Shirley commenced work at the old Cheshire Health Authority (Crewe District) in the supplies department based at the Barony Hospital on 26 June 1978, having previously served¬† for 4 years in the Women’s Royal Army Corp (WRAC). She has remained in the supplies department ever since. Her employment history from her commencement is a complete record and must be almost unique in showing absolutely no time off recorded for absence other than annual leave. We attribute her health to the regular diet of fruit and porridge oats that are a daily feature of her routine in the department

Her name has changed from Washington to Kelly. Her employer’s name has changed though the years , as have her managers. Her base has changed from The Barony to Leighton Hospital (nearer to her home, thankfully) but Shirley has remained constant and utterly reliable. She has adapted from typing out her own purchase orders on a manual typewriter , to electrification and then the advent of computers and modern purchase to pay systems.¬† Her attention to detail is commendable and her memory of products and suppliers almost unbeatable

The NHS has had the benefit of a fully dedicated servant for 40 years and long may this continue

Well done Shirl
