Three letters procurement will hear a lot of this year … I C S !
With NHSE/I recently launching their roadmap for PTOM, it’s clear the future has a big ICS focus for England.  A growing number of trusts are already working together as an ICS/STP (ok – STPs are not quite dead) but the focus on moving more formally to an ICS footprint will dominate the next 12 months – Covid to one side.

We’ve got a lot of regional experience, from setting up a number of the Collaborative Procurement Hubs back in the day (in former lives), to working on the latest analytics and insights with ICSs – more below. In fact, many of the leading procurement teams are customers of ours with 90% of HCSA winners being active customers of our analytics.

We’re developing our ICS Control Tower solution for regional / ICS procurement teams with a few cornerstone customers.

A Control Tower provides insight at an aggregated level and is used to improve both strategic, tactical and operational procurement through proactive insight and intelligence. We’ll be sharing more on this over the coming months. If you’re interested in how we can help your ICS, please get in touch.

We’re also seeing a growing interest in our Category / Contract analysis tools, developed with Salisbury / BSW STP – as highlighted in December’s Newsletter. The application is used by procurement and clinicians to identify brand and product variation across organisation and region, along with uptake against contracts and contract pricing – very useful when working with Category Towers.

And after a slight delay, detailed PD reports make it into PD. NHS Wales has helped trial them through December and January with great feedback from procurement and finance colleagues alike. More below.

We’re also expanding both in terms of team and service.  We’ve launched our Sustainability offer, which is being developed with three ICSs, along with industry partners.  In addition, we’re growing the team, with Data Scientists and Data Engineering roles as we see the business grow and the number of data feeds / insight wanted increases.

We also continue to be the only UK-wide Price Benchmarking and Spend Analytics solution for healthcare and are now in talks with overseas / private healthcare providers – more to follow.

Usage continues to increase across all of our applications as work planning and delivering more for less makes its way back onto team conversations. We’re seeing a growing pressure to save money again and we’re helping a number of trusts with our PD+ service, where we turbo-charge your opportunity identification and analytics to deliver significant RoI to you.

Finally, we welcome back more Acute trusts this month as more customers see the difference/benefit of working in partnership with us and our growing partners in R2 Consulting, Jackie Pomroy Consulting and CultureBlox. And don’t forget to join the fastest growing Healthcare Supply Chain Community.

Directorate Reporting – now Live in PD

One of the most asked for features went live last month – Directorate Reporting.

Directorate Reporting was a name we gave the proof of concept and it stuck.  It’s slightly misleading as you can do a lot more than report by directorate, meaning you can select any field in PD, from Supplier to eClass and the report will give you all the information you need. Our new reports give you:

  • Trust level KPIs
  • Spend on PO / Invoice
  • Spend by Supplier / Category / Cost Centre / Subjective
  • Pricing Opportunity by Supplier / Category / Cost Centre / Subjective
  • PO vs Catalogue Price by Cost Centre / Subjective

To access the report, simply login into PD, make your selections and click on the ‘report’ tab, next to your ‘raw data’ tab in the top right.

It was created off the back of the built-in ‘Summary’ report.  You asked for a more detailed report that contains more insights in specific areas, like price benchmarks and opportunities to switch. Well, we’ve now provided this and more, with detailed views of spend that are useful when talking to General Managers, Clinicians or Finance.

The report was developed with Procurement and Finance leaders to provide the information they needed.  When you’re using the report, if you identify something you’d like to add or think is missing, simply drop the team an email with your suggestion.

If it doesn’t work for your login, get in touch with our support team and we’ll get it switched on. We’ve prioritised PD+ Customers who all have access.

Single-Use Plastic Analysis

We delivered our first output to NHS in Greater Manchester last month, highlighting to the team the weight of single-use plastics the trusts use each year, by category and by supplier – plus how it’s changing over time.  We’re now working with two more ICS to deliver the same insights. We’ll have over 30 NHS trusts participating in the first phase of work/benchmarks. We’re developing a number of KPIs together to compare usage per patient.
