Bob Waddell has worked in the NHS Procurement for over 35 years and has gained experience of all aspects of Public Sector Procurement during that period. He currently heads a team of 13 staff who provide the Procurement Service to the Northumberland, Tyne & Wear NHS Foundation Trust based in Gosforth, Newcastle upon Tyne; one of the biggest Mental Health NHS Trusts in Europe. The geographical area covered by the Trust stretches from the Scottish Borders down to Sunderland and West to the border with Cumbria. Bob is an elected staff member of the Trust Board of Governors, and is also an elected member of the CIPS National Congress.
Bob was awarded a Fellowship by the Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply in 2012
Bob also delivers Procurement Training on behalf of the Crown Commercial Service to NHS Staff throughout the whole of the country. This training consists of various modules including four one day modules which comprise the CIPS Level 2 Certificate. Bob has been a member of this Training Network for over 14 years and has trained hundreds of staff during this period. He freely admits to really enjoying this aspect of his work – it is the one day in the month when he can feel he is really making a difference and passing on some of the experience which he has gained during the course of his career to the Procurement Professionals of the future.
In his spare time Bob is a Magistrate in South East Northumberland and is also the Treasurer of the Newcastle Ravens Rugby Club although the increasing vicissitudes of advancing years sadly now prevent him from playing.
