We can do little about our Past but can learn from the lessons in the Present to help improve and shape our Future”

Congratulations to the HCSA on your diamond anniversary year in 2020 from me and all your friends at GS1 UK.

Over the last 60 years the NHS has changed beyond all recognition and your organisation has continued to evolve to meet the each new challenge. The HCSA has ensured that supplies and procurement roles are rightly recognised as important careers. There’s no better testament to this than your commitment to personal development – especially through your Procurement Development Programme, which is best in class.

What you and your members do, every day, is not only deliver better financial and supply chain management, thus ensuring greater value for the tax payer, but you also enable the efficient tracking and tracing of products so that they can be found whenever they are needed – helping to improve patient safety.

We are all living through a period of radical change – whether because of financial pressures or the seemingly daily technology changes. The HCSAs strength as an organisation is to recognise these changes and have the leadership, experience and credibility to be an integral part of any change programme.

I wish you very best wishes for the coming year – and the next 60!

Glen Hodgson – Head of Healthcare
GS1 UK

Since become more active within Trust procurement I am absolutely amazed at the hard work from all at HCSA. From the various events, training sessions and important communication updates to the sector lobbying – often behind the scenes without recognition – there is so much that goes on to support NHS Procurement and Trust procurement and supply teams. My best wishes on their 60th Anniversary and am sure the organisation will continue to develop and grow over the next 60 years!

The delivery of healthcare needs to change. Increased demand, a reducing workforce, a move to out of hospital care, more advanced diagnosis, prevention, plus the environmental impact of what we buy/use and less resource in general, the profession needs to adapt to best support.

HCSA is ’the’ professional body for healthcare procurement, supplies and suppliers and is an organisation we proudly support. Strong procurement and closer working/partnerships with suppliers has never been more important in helping the NHS solve the challenges it faces.

But it’s also an exciting time. With change comes opportunity and those that embrace the change and adapt will discover a whole world of exciting ways to get stuck in. Data will become the core of decision making across all disciplines and that data will be used to drive improvement across all areas of healthcare in particular procurement. We’ve made a great start these past 3 years, but we’re only just out of the starting blocks. The future is bright…

Here’s to another 60 years of HCSA and our continued partnership.

Enabling Healthcare Spend to Stretch Further

The Association for Perioperative Practice are very pleased to be associated with the HCSA and wish them a very happy 60th Birthday.

Working to support procurement teams at all levels in healthcare the HCSA do a brilliant job developing training opportunities, educational seminars and providing a voice and a network for NHS procurement teams.  Procurement is a vital part of patient care and delivering safe and effective results and HCSA work hard to support procurement in every way possible.

As an organisation that supports practitioners within the perioperative environment, we know the importance of good procurement strategies and have a great relationship with HCSA and work collaboratively wherever possible.

A very happy birthday to everyone at HCSA.

Dawn Stott,

CEO and the Board of AfPP Trustees.

Dear HCSA,

I note that 2020 will be a very special year for the HCSA as it will commemorate 60 years as an association. This in itself is quite an achievement to be proud of, bearing in mind what probably started with several colleagues getting together to share experiences. Who would have thought in 1960 that it would develop into a truly professionally managed organisation that it has become.

This development is no doubt a credit to those with the foresight and energy that have year upon year sought to improve the status of healthcare procurement.

On behalf of our Society, our members and my fellow officers, please accept our congratulations and best wishes for what aims to be a year of celebrations.

The NHS Customer Board would like to congratulate HCSA on their Diamond Jubilee. Being the professional body of all NHS Procurement staff the HCSA has cemented its position as the lead organisation for the development and progression of staff working in the supply function of the NHS.

Ensuring the timely and efficient delivery to site of all forms of supplies is essential to good healthcare. The recent move to charity status creates the sound base necessary for the future growth of the HCSA. We look forward to continuing to work with them and wish them well for the future.
