30 September 2020 – The HCSA welcomes the publication of ‘PPE Strategy – Stabilise and Build Resilience’ by the Department of Health and Social Care.
This document provides assurance and certainty with regard to the supply of PPE to the NHS across the United Kingdom.
However, HCSA is disappointed that the important role of procurement and supply chain staff at NHS Trusts and intermediary bodies was not appropriately recognised in the publication – both over the past 7 months and in future plans.
The work of these individuals throughout England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales, along with the collaborative work across health economies and in partnership with social care was absolutely key to the delivery of a PPE service.
HCSA Members are responsible for the ‘final mile’ of PPE delivery – that critical stage from receipt of bulk delivery to arrival at ward/department/clinic level – and we will never lose sight of how important this is.
Our forthcoming awards will celebrate and recognise this work as our members remain ready as always to support the national effort.
