The Executive & Council welcome Alan Hoskins to the office of Chairman of the HCSA

It is an immense honour to commence my term as Chairman of the Health Care Supply Association (HCSA).

I follow Helen Lisle who has undertaken her duties with passion and enthusiasm raising the profile of the vital work we do. Helen will continue to serve the HCSA as Immediate Past Chairman leading on our CIPS and Alumni relationship along with our Annual Awards.

My NHS career commenced in 1986 and I have had an immensely enjoyable 31 years culminating in my current position as Director of NHS South of England Procurement Services (SOEPS). The support of my Team at SOEPS will be an essential component of my Chairmanship and I thank them in advance for their patience and understanding!

My belief in the values of the NHS and the contribution that excellent procurement¬† makes has been strengthened by my membership of the HCSA and latterly the Association’s Council along with an active role influencing our future on a national basis.

I have had the great pleasure of leading our Procurement Development Programme(PDP) for the past few years and have seen at first hand the depth of talent we have in NHS Procurement. I have enjoyed my term as Learning and Development Lead working with Marc Ibbotson who is also passionate about delivering the very best programme. Our PDP is ‘selling out’ annually within days of launch and I know Sarah Charman as our L&D Lead will continue with this good work.

I believe that NHS procurement is best delivered through a partnership with all the components of our landscape. I am particularly keen to develop our relationships with the Department of Health;NHS Improvement and NHS England along with the Home Countries Devolved Procurement Bodies. The HCSA is now recognised as the ‘voice of NHS Procurement’ and I will continue to ensure sure that voice is heard.

My Chairmanship will be the first that operates within a ‘Trustees’ framework as a result of our Charity status- I know that the Chairman of the Trustees (Mark Roscrow) along with all Trustees, will be a vital pillar of support. Our President (Lord Hunt) has already been generous with his wise advice. The Executive and Council, supported as always by John Effingham will no doubt keep me on the right path!

I am also pleased  to have at my side Simon Walsh who will be our Communications lead and provides a critical role. My Executive Team also includes our much loved Treasurer and Trustee Eugene Cooke.

My pride in assuming HCSA Chairmanship is shared by my family – whose tolerance I know I will stretch at times as my Term in Office will be demanding, delivering great satisfaction to its holder.

I anticipate being asked to attend a number of functions during my Term in Office- the hosts of which, may not be aware that as a trained butcher I know a ‘thing or two’ about a cut of meat!

Finally, in accepting the ‘Chain of Office’ I do so with a sense of both pride and optimism. The best days of NHS Procurement are yet to come-I will do all I can to deliver the contribution of the Health Care Supply Association honouring the vision of our founders in 1960 with a modern twist.
