On 8 January 2018, the government launched a new public services contract for facilities management aimed at small and medium sized enterprises.

The government’s announcement explains that the Government Legal Department (GLD) has condensed the existing Crown Commercial Service (CCS) contract terms into a new public sector contract.

The new contract represents a collaboration between the Government Digital Service, the CCS and the legal review of both the GLD and the law firm DLA Piper. The goal is that a small organisation or company that does not have a dedicated legal team will now be better able to understand and adapt the public sector contract to its needs. It is also intended that the benefits will apply to public sector buyers that may not have the resources to deal with complex contracts, or extensive procurement experience.
