Hospitals have been blocked from ordering dozens of critical care products through normal channels because of an “exceptional increase in national demand.”
NHS Supply Chain has been suspending intensive care unit consumables from its online catalogue since early May to prevent shortages, according to its website.
Fifteen new items, including eight tracheostomy kits, five tracheostomy tubes and one vascular catheter, were suspended from the catalogue on Friday morning, bringing the total to 151 products.
