Mario Varela has been involved with LPP since its inception in 2006, and took over the leadership of the programme in 2009. He led its transformation from a loose range of projects delivered through Deloittes and interim consultants to a permanent organisation.
He has also led LPP through the collaboration with the other NHS hubs to create the NHS Collaborative Procurement Partnership LLP.
Mario has now decided that the time is right to retire. As he says, “As I surveyed the NHS procurement landscape, it seemed to me that this year would be the right time to let someone else take over the reins and steer the organisation to the next level”.
Mario will leave at the end of September 2018, and the recruitment process for his successor will start within the next few days.
