Happy New Year and welcome to our new and updated Model Hospital newsletter
Each fortnight we will provide you with all the latest updates, insights and developments to the Model Hospital, including the latest data updates to Model Community Health, Model Mental Health and Model Ambulance (model.nhs.uk). We will also be including information on some of the exciting projects and
collaboratives from across the Model Ambassador network. As we progress through the year, we will share information on the development and release of the Model Health System – a new system-level view to support systems working across STPs and ICSs fulfilling one of our commitments of the NHS Long Term Plan.
For our first issue of 2020, we have some new updates to share with you across our Clinical Service Lines, an update on the 2018/19 Annual Data Refresh, and changes to our Helpdesk communications.
We hope you enjoy this newsletter and would welcome any comments and feedback particularly on any topics you would like us to cover over the next few issues. Please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org your ideas.
Update on the forthcoming Costs and Opportunities Annual Data refresh
Earlier this week, we received the Patient-Level Information and Costing Systems (PLICS) data, collected from trusts by NHS Digital in August / September last year. Our team is now dedicating all efforts to process and refresh the costing metrics and opportunities in the Model Hospital as quickly as possible. With this annual data update, Reference Cost data will be replaced with 18/19 National Cost collection (PLICS) data. Users can expect all cost metrics (e.g. Cost per Weighted Activity Unit) to be updated, alongside the headline ‘opportunities’ that are presented on your homepage. We expect the Annual Data refresh to take place over the next month and will update on specific timelines as soon as the data have been processed by our analysts. We understand that the official release of
PLICS data and the associated publications is planned for the end of January. We appreciate the high value that is placed on this information during your local planning and we are doing all that we can to release these data as soon as possible.
New GIRFT workstreams on the Model Hospital: ENT and Neurosurgery data
We now have information and data representing ten of the Getting It Right First Time (GIRFT) workstreams live on the Model Hospital. Metrics for ophthalmology were added in November 2019 and ENT and Neurosurgery data were added in December 2019. Log-into the Model Hospital and visit the Clinical Service Lines area to view all the available metrics for your trust. If you are on twitter, why not also follow @NHSGIRFT and @Model_Hospital to keep updated on any further developments.
The Pathology area in the Model Hospital has been updated with the latest data.
In the coming weeks, two more metrics: ‘Test per capita’ and ‘Cost per capita’ will be updated using the 2018/19 population figures. The figures currently displayed for these two metrics are based on 2017/18 catchment populations
