HCSA was delighted to see Her Majesty The Queen award the NHS with the George Cross - only the third time the honour has been bestowed on an organisation rather than an individual.
Recognising NHS staff past and present across all four nations, the bravery award was given for ‘courage, compassion and dedication’ during the pandemic and since its foundation.
The Queen praised the vaccine rollout in particular as health leaders from the four UK nations were awarded the medal at a small ceremony including the Prince of Wales at Windsor Castle this week.
HCSA sees the award as just acknowledgement for everyone who played a part in the reaction to the COVID pandemic, including our members, and all who have dedicated their lives to the NHS over the last seven decades.
In 2020, our President Lord Philip Hunt of Kings Heath PC OBE gave his President’s Award to the whole NHS procurement, supply chain and supplier community and it’s heartening to see another collective honouring of the health community with such a historic gesture.
