For the second year, the HCSA is proud to be supporting the National NHS Procurement Graduate Training Scheme (Pathways 2 NHS Procurement) and developing training courses specifically for the graduates.

In its pilot year, the scheme started with five graduates but has now been rolled out nationally and the new intake this year has increased by 380%.

This year also included a special lunch where new graduates came together to take on some classroom challenges and meet their new managers in a relaxed environment.

“The impressive increase in intake this year shows the potential for further growth as graduates have quickly come to see this scheme as comparable to those run by the major blue chip companies,” said HCSA L&D lead Marc Ibbotson.

Pathways 2 NHS Procurement is a collaborative partnership with Yorkshire and Humber SDN administering the scheme, supported by NHSE and HCSA who are funding some of the training.

HCSA Chairman Mark Roscrow added: “The training and development of procurement and supply chain staff has always been a key priority for HCSA as evidenced through 50 years of the PDP/Summer School programme this year. I am delighted that as part of our increased commitment to the future NHS workforce, HCSA has been able to provide funding into this well-received graduate scheme. The enthusiasm of the participants has been notable and we trust this will be the start of a long and productive career in the NHS.”

The HCSA developed training courses will commence in September as part of the graduate induction and there will also be a four day residential course in April 2023 with some top keynote speakers.
