NHSE appoints chief commercial officer after 14-month search

- Acting commercial chief Emily Lawson has been appointed permanently
- NHSE/I also announced structural changes to functions including communications, human resources and legal
NHS England/Improvement has made its interim chief commercial officer permanent after a 14-month search.
NHSE/I director Emily Lawson has been acting as CCO since at least November 2019 — more than a year after the substantive position was first advertised. The body said she was appointed after an external competitive recruitment process.
The role was “redesigned” last year, after NHSE/I reshuffled its senior organisational structure.
Ms Lawson will oversee national and regional teams supporting procurement, estates and other commercial functions, according to the body. She will also be responsible for NHSE/I’s corporate operations and for Primary Care Support England, which is run by Capita.
NHSE/I, which have been in the process of combining its structures for about two years, also announced a raft of structural changes.
