December 11 2020 – The HCSA has reviewed the new NHS document Integrated Care – next steps to building strong and effective integrated care systems across England and welcomes the operational direction of travel outlined for the future.
HCSA continues to value the work of our members in clinical commissioning groups (CCG) and commissioning support units (CSU) and applauds the employment guarantees that have been made to the majority of staff here.
The benefits of a more integrated and unified structure with the NHS are clear to see although flexibility is still required to ensure vital innovation within the system. Indeed, we regularly honour the innovative procurement and service development undertaken in many CCG and CSU teams at our Annual National Awards.
We also recognise the importance of cooperation across the NHS procurement family and in particular at the integrated care systems (ICS) level – as illustrated by the vital collaborative effort during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Moving forward, we continue to see provider collaboration as a great opportunity for the NHS procurement profession to work with clinical and operational services in reducing unwarranted variation and making more effective use of resources.
