Martin is a geneticist by background and a qualified brewer, starting his working career with Scottish & Newcastle in Edinburgh. After a number of years as a brewer he moved into general management, including setting up an indirect Procurement capability for S&N.
Over a number of years S&N grew, both in the UK and internationally, and he ended up as Head of Procurement for all indirect spend. Martin left S&N in 2004 to join RBS where they were in the process of creating a world class Procurement function (as defined by AT Kearney) and then moved to Halifax Bank of Scotland to be part of the creation of a Procurement team for the newly merged business.
He joined HSBC in 2008 to transform their UK Procurement team and then moved to a global role in 2012 to make HSBC Procurement a single global function, operating in over 70 countries, with a particular focus on process development and change, implementing new automation tools, creating a Procurement Academy, and increasing and optimising the use of HSBC’s offshore centres of excellence.
Martin left HSBC in June 2016 to work with his elder daughter on setting up a Scottish tourism business which was launched at the end of 2016 before moving back to Procurement. He joined NHS National Services Scotland in January 2017 at an exciting time for change in the NHS in Scotland.
Martin is currently Director Strategic Sourcing for Procurement, Commissioning & Facilities at NHS National Services Scotland. He is also the Scottish Regional Coordinator for the HCSA.
We hope you’ll join the Council in offering Martin a warm welcome to the HCSA.
