In honour of the NHS in its 70th year we are celebrating our wonderful staff.
Simon Walsh, Group Procurement Director , tells us what he enjoys most about his role “Working with a great Team and being part of a great Trust that does value the work of Procurement along with the support the HCSA has offered me in my career!”
Simon’s role is to lead a 100 strong Team and support a £1.6bn Foundation Trust , a far cry from his start as a Clerical officer for the then North West Regional Health Authority based at Rossendale Hospital. He describes the NHS in one word “Complex!”.
So why choose to work within the NHS, which he has done since 1987, Simon said: “I didn’t choose to be honest – I had left University and needed a job and this one came up – though I have enjoyed it ever since.”
We asked Simon what his favourite memory of his NHS career was “Three memories!- NHS 60TH Service at Westminster Abbey; going to Downing St twice and the Queen opening our new Hospitals in 2012.” Simon gently laughs when we asked what advice he would give to someone who was thinking of working for the NHS, “Go for it but remember its very often National in name only.”
Thank you Simon! #NHS70
