Clare Nash

Head of Clinical Products Management

Sandwell & West Birmingham NHS Trust

What are you most proud of?

I am incredibly proud of the work I have done to raise the profile of greener procurement, from giving presentations and teaching, developing a tool to support greener product choices published in the Nursing Times, and the influence I am able to have in the wider nursing world through my secondment at the Royal College of Nursing.

We have been able to embed sustainable procurement into everything we do at The Black Country Alliance, and the ripple effect is felt throughout our organisations now. I am also extremely proud of all of the clinical procurement nurses we have in our network, and the support we give to each other.

What makes you angry?

Those in power that fail to stand up for the rights of those less fortunate than them, and for their failure to adequately protect the planet and the health of our populations.

What sports team do you support (if any)?

My husband Tim has been a Wolves supporter all his life, but I don’t follow sport at all.

I much prefer sitting in a warm theatre, watching my daughter Lizzy perform in musicals. She recently played Jane Seymour in Six and is currently playing Wednesday in Addams Family.

Which famous person would you most like to meet and why?

Deborah Meaden. Wow what a great Dragon and female leader she is. I would love the opportunity to be mentored by her. She is really passionate about the planet and animal welfare, and many of her investments give a nod to improving the environment. Just hearing about her experiences would be amazing.

What superpower would you most like to have and why?

Cheesy, but I think we nurses have our own superpowers already. Being able to use our knowledge and skills to inform and improve healthcare is enough of a superpower for me!

What historical figure do you most admire and why?

I admire Emmeline Pankhurst and the other lesser-known suffragettes. Their collective fight to enfranchise women in the United Kingdom was so brave, and we should be so grateful for what they sacrificed.

However having recently read a book entitled “Invisible Women” by Caroline Criado Perez about the Gender Data Gap, our HCSA Women’s network still have much work to do.

What’s your perfect weekend?

Dry weather, and running / dog walking the Shropshire hills followed by a show at the theatre.

What’s your favourite meal?

Crusty bread dipped in melted camembert with Italian meats and salads.

Can you describe yourself in one word?

Enthusiastic

What do you hope to be doing 5 years from now?

I absolutely love working at Black Country Alliance and happy to stay doing my job as long as they will have me.

I also want to ensure I continue to influence the wider greener agenda from both a nursing and a procurement perspective.
