Paul Saunders
Head of Procurement
Somerset NHS Foundation Trust
What are you most proud of?
My family. A particularly proud moment was on holiday last year when my wife and children helped rescue and resuscitate an elderly lady who had collapsed in the sea and was drowning. It was incredible to see Sarah and the children react so quickly and positively when it was most needed.
What makes you angry?
Big stuff – greed, corruption, social inequality. On a more trivial scale, a badly packed dishwasher.
What sports team do you support (if any)?
I’m a lifelong supporter of Tottenham Hotspur and Somerset Cricket Club. I like to go and support both whenever possible. Somerset have started winning trophies recently, I’m keeping my fingers crossed that Spurs will follow suit in the not too distant future.
Which famous person would you most like to meet and why?
Noel Gallagher. I’d love to hear stories from when he hit the big time in the 1990’s, have a bit of football chat, a couple of beers, all followed by a (bad) singalong to his Oasis and High Flying Birds anthems.
What superpower would you most like to have and why?
Ability to talk to animals. As a relatively new owner of cats, I’d be interested to know what’s going on in their minds.
What historical figure do you most admire and why?
Baldrick from Blackadder, he always had a cunning plan.
What’s your perfect weekend?
Friday night at the cricket in Somerset, then off to St Ives, Cornwall with family to stroll along the coast, surf and paddle board followed by plenty of great food and some liquid refreshment. If we could find a comedy club or live music in the evening, even better.
What’s your favourite meal?
I love Indian food. Poppadom’s with all the pickles and chutneys, followed by a chicken balti, naan and sides
Can you describe yourself in one word?
Fortunate
What do you hope to be doing 5 years from now?
Hopefully helping people and continuing to enjoy life.
