Bunzl Healthcare has announced it is a finalist in the Supply Chain Excellence Awards 2022.

This nomination for The Sustainability Award recognises Bunzl's ongoing commitment to sustainability across its business.

As a critical link in the Healthcare supply chain, Bunzl has invested in a sustainable solution that offers long-term operational gains, for both its customers and its business.

The solution was provided by Digipal, who replaced its wooden pallets with pallets made from 100% recycled materials. These are no ordinary pallets, for as well as being highly robust and providing a long service life, far beyond that of wooden pallets, being lightweight makes them easier to handle.

They are nestable with a smaller footprint than wooden pallets, a design invaluable in healthcare settings where storage space is often limited. The nesting feature means Bunzl is able to use less vehicles for recovering empty pallets, reducing our CO2 impact on the environment. As each pallet has a tracking chip, Bunzl have full visibility of our assets in real-time, reducing lost and missing assets, for a more efficient operation and improving its service to customers.

Digipal share Bunzl's concerns for the environment too and also impressed the company with its green credentials. As a member of The Woodland Trust, they help the environment through annual tree planting schemes.

Investing in Digipal’s 100% recycled pallets has not only improved Bunzl's customer service and saved operational costs, but more importantly, is helping to support its sustainable business practices on the road to net zero.
