An experienced NHS leader has been appointed as the new Group Chief Finance Officer for Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust.

Claire Wilson is currently the Chief Finance Officer for NHS Cheshire and Merseyside and President of the Healthcare Financial Management Association, the professional body for finance staff working in healthcare. She started her career as an NHS finance graduate trainee and has gone on to senior roles at local, regional and national levels.

Welcoming the appointment, Mark Cubbon, Group Chief Executive for Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust, commented: “We are delighted to have Claire joining us at this very important time. We have just approved our three-year Financial Recovery Plan, which will address our financial challenges and create a firm foundation on which to build the further development of our services.

“Claire brings with her extensive experience of being a Chief Finance Officer in different types of NHS organisations, which very much supports close working with our health and social care partners.”

Claire Wilson said: “I am very proud to be taking on the role of Group CFO at MFT, and am really looking forward to joining the trust at what is both a challenging, but also an exciting time. To be on the board and lead the finance function at my local trust, where both my children were born, is a huge honour, and I can’t wait to start.”

Claire’s start date is expected to be 9th December 2024.
