Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (OUH) recently received planning permission for a new Surgical Elective Centre on the John Radcliffe site.

On completion, the building will provide additional operating theatres to address waiting lists for complex elective (routine) procedures, meeting the demands of the growing population in Oxfordshire, Berkshire, and Buckinghamshire.

This project will reduce elective waiting times and improve patient pathways for many years to come. In addition, dedicated hybrid theatres will give the Trust a leading edge and enable the most up-to-date procedures in suitable facilities, and across multiple specialties.

Work has started on the building, with the project due for completion in Spring/Summer 2026.

Date: 23 September
