Scotland’s health service would save £150 million a year if it integrated closer with its counterparts in England and Wales, a think tank founded by Gordon Brown has claimed.
A report commissioned by Our Scottish Future, which aims to promote and maintain the union, suggests that major savings could be made if Scotland aligned with NHS Supply Chain, the procurement agency which serves hospitals and health centres south of the border.
Andrew Mooney, the researcher, who completed the report, entitled Scaling UP, said: “We believe NHS Scotland should challenge itself to realise up to £150 million in procurement savings each year from working with NHS Supply Chain.
