HCSA would like to take the opportunity to pay tribute to former NHS England boss Sir David Nicholson, who is stepping down from his position as chair of Worcestershire Acute Hospitals Trust after four years.

Sir David, who remains chair of Sandwell and West Birmingham Hospitals Trust, will remain a resident of Worcestershire and continue to take an interest in the Trust’s activities. He is also joining The Dudley Group Foundation Trust as current chair Dame Yve Buckland has announced she is stepping down.

Always a passionate supporter of HCSA, Sir David’s has had regular speaking appearances at our conferences which he has used to enforce the importance of the procurement community to the NHS.

We are grateful for his continued interest in commercial and procurement matters throughout the NHS and wish him all the best in his continuing roles.

HCSA President Lord Hunt of Kings Heath PC OBE said: “Sir David Nicholson has always been a fine servant to the NHS as exemplified by his time as Chair of Worcestershire Acute Hospitals Trust. We are all thankful for his service over the years and in the future.”

Worcestershire Acute Hospital Trust CEO Matthew Hopkins added: “Sir David has made a huge contribution to the progress we have made as a Trust and to the many improvements we have made to our hospitals and our services over the past four years.

“On behalf of the board, and colleagues across our Trust, I would like to thank Sir David for his unwavering commitment to the Trust, our staff and our patients. His knowledge, experience and understanding of the NHS have been invaluable to us.”
